In the Palaearctic region, the subfamily Euchirinae comprises 2 genus and 9 species: Propomacrus Newman, 1837 (3 species) and Cheirotonus Hope, 1840 (6 species). Scarabaeus bimucronatus Pallas, 1781 is the type species of the genus Porropus Laporte, 1840 (syn. Popromacrus).

Genus Propomacrus Newman, 1837

Three species belong to the genus Popromacrus distributed in South East Europe, Asia Minor, Levant, Cyprus and Jiangxi (China).

Propomacrus bimucronatus is found in known from South East Europe (Bulgaria, Greece), Asia Minor (Turkey, Iran) and Levant: North Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

Propomacrus cypriacus Alexis and Makris, 2002 is endemic of Cyprus.

Big (males: 35-45 mm, female: 25-36), black and thorny specimens easy to recognize but rarely found...

In Israel it is collected from the forest areas in the Northern part of the country (Carmel ridge and Mt Hermon), often attracted at light (Eylon Orbach, pers. comm.).

In Lebanon the species was recently collected by A.Kairouz in traps, attracted at light and in the trees. The specie was also observed by P.H. Tauzin during 2009 in Chira (environ Berhalioum, Caza Bziza: 7 larvae in Quercus calliprinos), and from Beit Ayoub (Caza Aakkar, 1100m) in an aerial trap on Quercus cerris.

In Syria is known from North West part of the country (Akbes) and from Hmaymim (coll. Tingaud), but it could be present also in relict forest areas in the Eastern part of Syria.
