The TROGIDAE Family

This page was draw up by Stefano Ziani.

The family Trogidae includes about 300 species (2.5 to 20.0 mm long), in four worldwide genera. Both adults and larvae feed on hair, feather, fur and skin of dead animals. They also feed on organic material found in nests of mammals and birds.

In the Palearctic region three genera, Afromorgus Scholtz, 1986, Omorgus Erichson, 1847 and Trox Fabricius, 1775 are recorded. The three genera are recorded from the Levant as well, the first two with one species each, and Trox with 12 species.
